The odour of Regency Ginger (obtained from the rhizomes of Zingiber officinale) is pleasant, its flavour penetrating, and biting and yet subtle. Ginger is widely used ingredient in Oriental cookingfor over 2,000 years flavouring products such as Curry Powders, pickles, and also confectionary, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages etc.
Regency Ginger is the dried knobby shaped root of the perennial herb Zingiber officinale. The whole plant is refreshingly aromatic and the underground rhizome, raw or processed, is valued as spice. It is pleasant, its flavour penetrating, and biting, yet subtle. Crystallized Ginger is fresh gingerroot cooked in syrup and dried. Ginger is a widely used ingredient in Oriental cooking for over 2,000 years. It is used in Indian curries, and Chinese, Japanese, and European spice blends. Fresh ginger, dry ginger powder, oleoresin and oil are used in food processing. It is vital in the manufacture of gingerbread, confectionery, gingerale, as also in certain types of cordials, ginger cocktail, carbonate drinks, liquors etc. As a medicine, it is widely used as a anti-flatulent and stimulant. Sometimes Ginger is also used as flavoring in soft drinks.
Earlier Ginger was mainly produced in China and India but now it is widely grown in Jamaica, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Malaysia and Japan.
During the 15th century, gingerbread became quite popular and was used as a token of love and respect. In the 1800's, Ginger was commonly sprinkled on top of beer or ale, then stirred into the drink with a hot poker – voila! Gingerale became popular.
Regency Ginger is supplied as whole, split or ground. Low sulphite varieties with sulphite levels less than 10ppm are also available. Packing is in cartons or bags as per customer needs. Specifications : Current crop, admixture max. 0.5, aroma and flavor as characteristic to specific variety being supplied, free from extraneous odours and flavors, mold, alive insects, practically free from dead insects.
